Dental Implants

Dental implants are considered the pinnacle of tooth-replacement and restoration. Over the past 40 years, implants have evolved and expanded in many ways, offering patients a permanent and natural look that also stimulates the gums, promotes bone growth, and makes chewing and speaking easier than ever compared to its contemporaries.

Did you know there were multiple types of dental implants to consider?

Biopsy

If your dentist detects any abnormalities in your oral soft tissues, such as cysts in your x-ray, they’ll send you to an oral surgeon who will perform a biopsy. They may also refer you if they believe you’re at risk for oral cancer. Thankfully, the mouth is one of the easiest place to catch early signs of oral cancer.

After you have a private consultation with the surgeon, they may recommend a complete removal of abnormal tissue. During the procedure, you’ll be placed under IV general anesthesia. After surgery is complete, you’ll be mailed a report with your laboratory results within 10 days.

Bone Grafting

If you aren’t sure if you are eligible for dental implants due to bone recession in the jaw or bone loss, you’ll be excited to learn how bone-grafting can make implants possible. To restore bone, surgeons use a process called Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) to isolate fibrin-rich platelets from your own blood and use them for the bone graft.

During procedure, you’ll also be given general anesthesia via IV. The surgeon will remove bone from another area of your body and then transplant it to the needed area. This should provide sufficient room for a dental implant to properly integrate.

Sinus Lift

This is a specialized bone grafting procedure that lifts the soft tissue of the sinus floor to create adequate room and accommodate your future dental implant. For patients with severe maxillary bone loss, this treatment is much more ideal.
