Michelle struggled with failing teeth for years, especially after losing her husband and her health insurance, leading to frequent infections, pain, and difficulty eating. The condition severely impacted her overall health and her ability to care for herself and her children. After a breaking tooth and a painful abscess, she realized she had to take action to improve her dental health for her future and her family’s well-being.
Michelle: Before I had my teeth done, I was really lacking confidence and some of that was from losing my husband and it was just hard. Whenever my husband passed away, it’s hard to make sure that you take care of anything in your life. You’re kind of all over the place and you don’t think logically like you normally would, but I have children. My two boys, I had to keep going. For them, it really didn’t matter. They still had needs they needed met, so you keep doing it. But for myself, I definitely suffered because I have been dealing with failing teeth for years. So I mean that’s things like them breaking and cracking, but it was really the losing my health insurance whenever he passed away that, I was like, I can’t even get the small things done anymore.
My teeth drastically affect my health. It’s been such a blessing now to not have infections all the time. I didn’t realize how sick it made me feel all the time. It’s just one of those things I guess you don’t realize because you are just used to it. And definitely eating, I get to eat so many things now that I haven’t gotten to eat in years, steak, and beef jerky, and all those other things that I just haven’t been able to chew. It really means a lot to be able to have not only the image in my smile back, but to have the function and the. health back as well.
Shortly before I decided to start going around and doing this, I was on a road trip and I bit into a sandwich and half my tooth broke off on the trip and I was like, this is great. This is how continue on with Christmas and whatever. It affects your life so bad because you can’t eat properly. Whenever I didn’t have any insurance and I got my first abscess or whatever and I was like, I have to do something because it gave me, I can’t live in pain. It makes me not responsible to my children if I’m living in pain. That was really my changing moment of, I have to do something for the future of my teeth and the future of me.
Last May is when I came in for my surgery and they removed all of my teeth and I went home in a set of temporaries, like I never even had to look at myself with their teeth. Even then, that is just such a great experience to wake up and not have that same failing looking smile that you had prior. This place felt like home. I felt like I connected with Dr. Vickers, I felt like it was so refreshing. I would recommend this practice to everyone. Like I said, I did my shopping around. I went to several different offices. I met with several other doctors. Some were great. You can see it’s something through people’s eyes, but there’s a lot you see through their smile and getting to see inside someone. I’m glad that I get to show what’s inside on the outside and just be happy and smile and not feel like I have to hide it. This office is like a home and they take such good care of you and you see the same people and they are just as excited when you get those teeth in.
