Hi, my name is Dr. Zeeshan Dhanawala, and I’m a board certified urologist in Plano, Texas. In my field, I’m used to looking at things systematically, finding causes, connecting symptoms, and understanding the why behind disease processes and what patients feel. But when it came to my own jaw pain, headaches, and tension, I just couldn’t seem to figure it out. After trying a few different things with very little relief, I finally decided to reach out to Texas Center for Facial TMJ and Sleep Disorders. When I first spoke to Dr. Anver , who’s a good friend and colleague of mine, he asked me, do you have an open mind? At which point I was a little skeptical and a little hesitant about what he was going to offer. But as he continued to talk and explain how everything was connected, from the jaw mechanics to posture, muscle tension, fatigue, from not getting enough oxygen at night when sleeping, it helped me see the fuller picture.

And it was the first time that it actually made sense, and after months of suffering. My experience at the TMJ side of the practice has been fantastic. Dr. Anver works with nurse practitioner, Brittany Sanford, and she has been nothing short of incredible and amazing. She’s incredibly thorough and compassionate. She took the time to listen to me, explained everything very clearly, and I could tell that she genuinely cared about helping me get better. She had something that I don’t see in a lot of physicians, which is bedside manner. And I think that that is an important thing that I value because I do believe that bedside manner breeds trust and allows one to obtain very optimal outcomes. My first consultation began with a list of thorough questions, pictures of my posture in various positions, and finally a CT scan, which identified a very significant factor. And that was a deviated nasal septum with a bone spur associated with my septum causing blockage.

At this point, I was offered a treatment plan, including infrared laser therapy for acute pain, which seemed to work very well, which I was doing once a week. And after approximately four to five weeks, the pain significantly subsided from just using that therapy. I had orthotics that were made for me, and I started wearing them once I received them around eight to 12 weeks down the road. And these were for purposes of realigning my jaw. And then I finally At the recommendation of nurse practitioner Brittany, saw an ENT surgeon by the name of Dr. Kenny Carter and eventually underwent a septoplasty and removal of the bone spur. And since that time, along with all the different uh, therapies that we, we implemented with, uh, uh, Dr. Anver’s practice, I have noticed a huge difference and improvement in my quality of life. One thing that’s no longer present is my jaw pain. Secondly, I’m breathing much better at night and getting much better sleep.

And this for somebody who operates on people is very apparent. And I can truly say that my jaw feels more relaxed. The headaches have also gone, gone away. And even as I said, my sleep has gotten much better. It’s been a game changer and really truly life changing to say the very least. As someone in medicine, I can really appreciate the level of expertise and care that both Dr. Anver and Brittany have provided. They are very technical, very deliberate and very well versed in their area of expertise. So I’m glad that I made the call. And I honestly would recommend this to anybody else to really help understand and get to the root of their main causes of their jaw pain.

It's been a game changer and really truly life changing to say the very least.
